Notice Period

Notice Period explained in plain English for employees comparing final pay, notice, payment in lieu, vacation, and severance terms.

General estimates only. Not legal advice. Always verify with HR, your contract, and official guidance.

Notice period

The time between giving notice of resignation or termination and the employment end date, usually set by a contract, statute, award, agreement, or policy.

What it is not: It is not the same as severance pay, redundancy pay, vacation pay, or a guarantee that you will work every day in the period.

Example: If you resign on July 1 and your worksheet assumes 30 calendar days of notice starting July 2, the estimated notice end date is July 31.

Related terms

Compare Notice period with notice pay, payment in lieu of notice, termination pay so you do not combine separate final pay concepts in one estimate.
